[参考范文] The Multiple-choice Test Should Be More Scientific
For years, there's a debate on whether or not the multiple-choice test should be canceled. Some people believe that this type of exam is a most effective and objective form of evaluation. After years of practice, the multiple-choice test has, however, shown its limitations and drawbacks.
Admittedly, the multiple-choice tests improve a student's accuracy and proficiency in answering questions and the objectiveness of an exam. However, while a student scores high in the test, he tends to neglect certain problems that may arise. For one thing, a student is more likely to guess the answers from the four items. In this situation, even if the student gives the right answer to a question, that does not mean he has taken a good command of the knowledge. For another thing, the multiple-choice tests focus only on the right choice among four items. By comparison, the ability to express one's thought is more or less ignored. Thus, multiple-choice tests are not a scientific method to evaluate students' knowledge command.
In conclusion, it is clear that the multiple-choice test leaves much to be desired, and therefore some measures must be taken to make it more scientific.

Direction: Write a short composition of about 150 words on the topic given below. Topic: China's Auto Industry
[参考范文] China's Auto Industry
As one of the pillar industries, auto industry has been effecting on the whole national economy. Since the reform and opening up, the auto industry, oriented towards the market, has made long-stride progress.
In China, auto industry has established an auto industrial system in the period of planned economy, mainly for production of cargo vehicles. In recent years, in order to stimulate people's consumption, spur the market and enlarge domestic demands, our country has impelled the development of auto industry as one of the two pillar industries.
Along with quick development of national economy and further reform of economic system toward market economy, there are some disadvantages existing as well, such as the trend of duplicated construction and blind launch of new projects. However, when the momentum of merger and acquisition enhanced, the deficiency has been curbed. Because the structure of auto consumption market has changed significantly, and private purchase has increased, the focus of competition among auto manufacturers is being shifted to product grade, function, performance and quality.
It is undoubted that China auto industry is taking a more important position in the whole national economy. Although the prospect is optimistic, we have to bear in mind that there is a long way to go comparing with the world advanced level.

[参考范文] Wildlife Protection
We have all been witnessing the incredible speed in the progress of human society, yet few of us wonder about at the underlying sacrifices. A painful fact that we are unwilling to face is to what extent our progress has been at the expense of extinction of wildlife species. The cartoon, depicting a man shooting at wild animals, brings home to us the significance of wildlife protection: in the ecological circle, human beings and wild animals are interdependent on each other. As is shown in the cartoon, they keep a fragile and precarious balance on each side of the seesaw. Any attempt to harm one will inevitably break the balance and eventually lead to the destruction of all.
We can see from the cartoon that hunting poses a direct threat to wild animals. Insatiable human greed becomes the driving force behind the killing of many precious and rare species. Some people hunt merely for pleasure, while others are driven by greed for the huge profits. Their relentless hunting has been a direct fatal cause of wildlife extinction.
Various environmental pollution is another cause of wildlife extinction. Less obvious though it seems, it is more catastrophic. Hunting endangers the life of individual wild animals, but pollution perils the survival of an entire species. Deforestation, desertification, drying rivers and rising sea levels are just a part of the signs of a deteriorated environment, which has become hardly fit for many species.
As is shown in the cartoon, it is a critical moment: pull a trigger, and we will fall victims to ourselves. It is a shame how few of us realize that human beings are never the masters of others nor adversaries but friends. Providing shelter for them also promises a better future for us.

[参考范文] Competition and Cooperation
Competition is a common phenomenon in our social life. You can find it everywhere. At the same time you can also see cooperation here and there.
Competition is one of the motives of the constant development of the mankind. The pressure of competition can force a man to try his best and then he could do things better and better. On the contrary if one has no opponent, he will begin to be lazy and lose the energy of working hard to make progress. So the mankind couldn't develop without competition. But there are many difficulties in the long way of development. In some cases a man is very hard to conquer those difficulties. So pure and exclusive competition leads to failure. It will be much easier to solve them if many people get together. The importance of cooperation just lies on it. If we ignore the needs of cooperation and just do things separately, we also would not be able to obtain our goals.
Competition and cooperation are both necessary to the mankind. Competition will make us be always active to create. Cooperation gives us the possibility of conquering the great troubles. Only competition together with cooperation call help us to become better all the time.

[参考范文] Grandfather Doing Homework for His Grandson
As is vividly portrayed in the drawing above, the grandfather is so tired as to sleep, for he has been doing all his grandson's homework. And we can find that the undone homework is still piled up before this excessively overworked old man. The drawing exposes a common phenomenon in our society. How thought-provoking it is!
The implied meaning of the drawing is worth discussing. To begin with, the youngster generation are not working hard so much as older generation since they are not willing to do all the jobs by themselves. Take boring homework as example. Very often it is found that all these tasks are left to parents and grandparents. Is it unilateral responsibility for the youngster generation? I think it's partly because the old generation should undertake the responsibility for this phenomenon. The older generation love their youngsters too dearly that they fear the youngster generation may bear a little suffering; so the old, if possible, do everything for the young. The result is that the old generation are excessively overworked while the youngster generation are becoming useless without fundamental life skills.
To conclude, as solid youngsters, in my view, we can not go farther and fly higher if we excessively depend on the old generation. And the older generation should encourage youngsters to make their own careers. As long as much trained in difficulties and challenges, we Chinese youths will soon be strong players in this competitive globe.
