A Donation Is Not A Good Way
to Aid the Recovery of Earthquake-hit Regions
I strongly agree that donation is a very good way, or I must say essential, to aid the recovery of the earthquake-hit areas in short term. Nonetheless, I believe that it is not a good way to aid the recovery of those regions in long term.
Right in the wake of the earthquakes, millions of people in earthquake-hit regions became homeless and refugee. Majority of people were struggling for survival as they suffered from starvation, thirst and physical injuries. Donations, in terms of food, water, clothing and medicine are absolutely the most direct and important to serve the people with urgent daily necessity need to survive. Doctors, nurses and other volunteers are all crucial to aid victims in short term.
Nevertheless, long-term donation is definitely not a wise means to aid earthquake-affected regions since we should aim for seeing sustainable development and recovery of those initiated by themselves. Endless donations would make those regions too dependent on aid that eventually the incentive and ability to rebuild their counties or cities on their own would be lost.
Successful recovery should be self-initiated. In fact, there are many ways to aid the recovery in the long run. We can bring various technology and technological knowledge to foster the speed of recovery. Experts can involve in the planning of recovery of those regions and educate people better on enhancing quality of their tourism, which is the main source of income for most people in those affected areas. By those means, long-term sustainable recovery development can be ensured in a self-motivated and initiated way with their earning coming from their own effort.
