Research on animal intelligence always makes me wonder just how smart humans are. 1 the fruit-fly experiments described in Carl Zimmer's piece in the Science Times on Tuesday. Fruit flies who were taught to be smarter than the average fruit fly 2 to live shorter lives. This suggests that 3 bulbs burn longer, that there is an advantage in not being too terrifically bright.
Intelligence, it 4 , is a high-priced option. It takes more upkeep, burns more fuel and is slow off the starting line because it depends on learning—a 5 process—instead of instinct. Plenty of other species are able to learn, and one of the things they've apparently learned is when to 6 .
Is there an adaptive value to 7 intelligence? That's the question behind this new research. I like it. Instead of casting a wistful glance 8 at all the species we've left in the dust I.Q.-wise, it implicitly asks what the real 9 of our own intelligence might be. This is on the mind of every animal I've ever met.
Research on animal intelligence also makes me wonder what experiments animals would 10 on humans if they had the chance. Part Ⅴ TranslationDirections: Translate the following passage into Chinese and put your translation on the ANSWER SHEET.
1. It goes without saying, then, that language is also a political instrument, means, and proof of power. It is the most vivid and crucial key to identity: it reveals the private identity, and connects one with, or divorces one from, the larger public, or communal identity. There have been, and are, times, and places, when to speak a certain language could be dangerous, even fatal. Or, one may speak the same language, but in such a way that one's antecedents are revealed, or (one hopes) hidden.

(Reported by City A Personnel and Talent Bureau)

As is shown in the graph, the job future in City A is not looking so bright. City A Personnel and Talent Bureau reported that in 2001, there were only 50,000 positions available for the almost 60,000 graduates. While the number of the graduates increased by 67~ in the following two years, that of the job opportunities remained the same. As far as I know, the situation is no better in other big cities of China. Job hunting has become one of the most serious problems today.
In order to solve the problem, the government should adjust job market policies to take pressure off the new job-seekers. For one thing, they're supposed to provide the graduates with more job opportunities. For another, they should enlighten the graduating college students as to the fierce competition ahead.
It is more important that the job hunters be fully aware of the difficult situation and get well prepared for the tough journey. Facing such a tight job market, they ought to adjust their attitude and set more realistic career goals. It's advisable to try their luck in smaller but also promising cities. If still they cannot find a suitable job, putting off employment and going abroad for further study may be other good choices.
