Unequal Opportunities for Female Students
It is a fact that female postgraduates have more difficulties in obtaining post-graduate employment. It is, however, not fair to them.
It can be admitted that male and female students are different in many ways. Recent research in the United States comparing brain cells between the two sexes shows that men are more capable than woman in scientific work. But the conclusion has been involved in serious questioning. As for the ordinary employers, their practical consideration focuses only on the female's heavier responsibilities at home than the male, therefore they have the discrimination in advance that young women employees will cause troubles in their arrangement of daily work.
But it is really a prejudice. First of all, women have shown great ability in all professions and vocations. They can do equally well as doctors, lawyers, scientists, drivers, plumbers, policewomen, or even astronauts. A Japanese survey shows that women can increase productivity by 10% but decrease labor cost by 15% when they are working in an assembly line. As early as the Second World War, women displayed their capacity and dependability in factories while all the men went to the battlefront. The modem Chinese female college students are as excellent as their male counterparts, so it will be certain that they are capable of fulfilling whatever tasks male employees can do.
Moreover, in a company which plays a role as a cell or a unit of a society, its employer must be aware of his social responsibility and show his sympathy to his female employees: He should provide them with time and subsidies to have a baby. It is a common knowledge that everybody has obtained his life after his mother gave birth to him. But why has the society become so cruel that people do not like to see a young woman employee having her maternity leave only for several months? In addition, from a viewpoint of long term benefits, an outstanding mother employee may be ten times better than an ordinary male worker.
Therefore, the unequal opportunities in employment should be stopped immediately.
