In China, it is very difficult to be admitted into a good high school or a good university. Students have to study very hard and endure much hardship to become competitive enough to be admitted into a good school. As more and more Chinese families can afford a high-school or college education in a foreign country, more and more Chinese kids go to study overseas. What do you think of the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad at an early age?
[范文] Studying Abroad at an Early Age
Nowadays, many Chinese parents prefer to send their children to study overseas, and there is a popularly accepted idea that the earlier children go abroad, the better development they will achieve. As a result, many children are sent away at an early age.
Indeed, there are a lot of advantages of studying abroad. The first benefit is that children have a better environment to learn a foreign language. As we all know, the best way to learn a foreign language is to learn from native speakers. Second, children have access to different cultures while they may also introduce Chinese culture to other countries. It's like a bridge for people from two ends to meet and communicate.
However, there is no such thing that brings only benefits and costs nothing. Neither is studying abroad at an early age. If young children are not mature enough to deal with culture shocks properly, they may have psychological problems or mental diseases, with no one around to ask for help. The bridge will turn into a huge vortex which demands a lot of efforts to get out. Besides, according to a research on intimacy, people growing up with family members, especially when they are young, find it easier to build intimacy with others than those growing up alone.
In my opinion, studying in a different country can be a good way to broaden one's mind and accept better education. But it can also bring harm to young children. All in all, every coin has two sides. Parents should think twice before they make any decision. At least children's adaptability and psychology maturity should be taken into consideration.
