[范文] Protecting Language Is to Protect Our Future
Although language plays a vital role in people's daily lives and has great value, languages around the world are disappearing at an alarming rate. Some people applaud this phenomenon, because in their eyes language is just a tool, and it would be more convenient to communicate if people all spoke the same language. However, I can't agree with them. In my opinion, language is one of the most precious treasures that our ancestors left us, and we also shoulder the responsibility to pass it to our descendants.
There are two reasons for which I believe language is very important. First, as Samuel Johnson said, "Language is the dress of thought." To express thoughts and feelings, people can't do without language. Language is not only a tool for people to communicate and exchange ideas, but also a cultural tradition or a carrier of civilization. And even language itself is a part of the culture and civilization. Therefore, protecting the diversity of languages is of great significance to the inheritance and development of human civilization. And second, language is also a repository of everyone's unique identity, cultural history, traditions and memories. It is difficult for us to regard someone as our compatriot if he or she speaks a different language. It can be said that language serves as the cement of national identity. That is one of the most important reasons why Western colonists revolutionized the local language when they ruled the colony.
By way of conclusion, it is language that contributes to our cultural diversity and ethnic identity, which are much more important than an easier life due to fewer languages in the globe. The disappearance of language must come at the expense of cultural diversity. Therefore, everybody and the governments should act to protect language diversity.
