Dear Sir or Madam,
From your letter, we understand that the crowded condition of our dining hall has caused you a lot of trouble. We're sorry for the inconvenience we have brought to you.
To avoid the crowdedness, we suggest you come to have your meals with the E-card during the off-peak hours, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the morning, from 13:00 to 14:00 in the afternoon, and from 18:00 to 20:00 in the evening. During those periods, you should have no trouble getting help and enjoying a relatively comfortable environment. What's more, we will open more service windows and offer more tables soon.
Please let us know whether you think the problem is working out. And we'd always appreciate your comments on our dining hall.
Yours sincerely,
Li Ming
Part B1.
Directions: Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should
1) describe the drawing briefly,
2) explain its intended meaning, and then
3) give your comments.
It is vividly depicted in the cartoon that[1] a newly-graduating student stands outside the door of a university, holding the certificate of graduation. We can also find that the door is closed, which makes the student confused and nervous. Moreover, the student is naked, which stands for that the student has learned nothing during four years of staying in college and now he appears to feel helpless and the only thing he can do is to use the certificate to cover up his private parts.
Undoubtedly[2] the cartoon subtly conveys the meaning that our educational system does not help college students meet the social needs, which should be taken more seriously than before. And we can see clearly that the students, having learned nothing practical in college years, are unable to support themselves in the real world. One cause of this embarrassing situation may probably lie in[3] deficiency of pre-employment education in university. Being an academic institution itself, a university often places far more emphasis on scholarly education than practical experience, hence lacking certain educational system to encourage students' involvement in society. Another[3] is that students do not focus their attention on study but on online games and campus love. They have wasted the time that should be spent on academic study, let alone on any social practice.
It is widely acknowledged that the only way out is to energize the school management and cultivate students' ability. For one thing universities can set some work-related courses. For another, students should have more social practices off campus. Only in this way could[4] students leave school equipped with more useful skills and would not feel nervous and stressed.
