Part B1. Study the following picture carefully and write an essay to
1) describe the picture,
2) interpret the meaning, and
3) give your comments on this issue.
In this cartoon, a father and his son are just stepping out of the gate of a university. The elderly father miserably takes the hand of his son who, taking on a self-important air, carries with him a diploma, for which the poor father shoulders a heavy sack of debts, while the son is rather indifferent about that.
The picture portrays to us a sad scene and meanwhile closely reflects a social reality of our country. In China, many parents design a so called brilliant future for their children. They set an ultimate goal—attending college—for their children. In order to fulfill the goal, children are told that their onlyjob is to study hard, and that they do not have to worry about the tuition fee or anything else. Some children live up to the parents' expectations, hut the expensive education expenditure makes an extraordinarily heavy burden to the family. Regardless of that, the parents are pleased to pay for everything the children ask for, as long as the children are studying for a degree in the college.
These children, therefore, are spoiled by their parents. They don't understand well about real life. Even if a number of college students come from poor families, they can not see clearly the difficulty that their parents are undertaking. They do not take part-time jobs but only ask for money from their parents. They are receiving education in the universities, but they learn too little about life even if they obtain a diploma one day, They are still not prepared for their future. As a result, the day of their graduation might at the same time become the starting point for them to pay debts.
