W: Hello, Sir, may I take your order now? M: Sorry, I haven't decided yet. A friend of mine is coming. Q: What's the probable relationship between the two speakers?
[听力原文] M: John is not good at math. Maybe he needs a tutor to get him through the class. W: That could be true, but I think we should talk with him first. Q: What are the two persons probably going to do?
[听力原文] M: What will you do if you are not successful in the interview? W: If I am not, I'll have to go to work on the farm for my father instead of working in that company. Q: What will the woman do if she fails the interview?
[听力原文] W: What's going on here? M: You mean, what's happening? Well, constable, I'm trying to get out of the window and Freud here is helping me. W: Why are you climbing through the window and not leaving by the front door? M: Well, you see I can't find the key and I'm in a hurry. Come on, Freud, we're wasting time. W: Just a minute you two. I don't think you're telling me the truth. This isn't your house, is it? M: No, it's my brother's. I'm staying with him for a while. W: Is he at home? M: I'm afraid not. He's just in jail for house-breaking at the moment.
What was the man doing?

[听力原文] M: What's the matter with you? W: Oh, doctor. I had a fever last night. M: Sorry to hear that. Did you take your temperature? W: No. But I knew it was a very high fever. M: But now you don't seem to have a fever. Your temperature is normal. Are you taking any medication? W: No. M: OK, let me listen to your heart and lungs. Please take a deep breath. W: Anything serious? M: No. Don't worry. It's only a cold. You'll be OK soon. W: Thanks a lot.
What was wrong with the patient according to the doctor?
根据原文中“It's only a cold.”(只不过是感冒。)可知选项C(她患了感冒)为正确答案。 选项D(她的心肺有问题)是对原文只言片语的牵强附会,与原文“...let me listen to your heart and lungs.”(让我听一下你的心肺)意义相差甚远。选项B(她健康状况良好)与原文出入最大,较易排除。

[听力原文] Many people who live in cities say that they dislike city life. They say the city is noisy, dirty and crowded. They are tired of the traffic and the pollution. But not many people living in cities are happy when they have to stay in the country for two or three weeks. They enjoy the quiet, the clean air and the beautiful healthy surroundings, but they miss the stores and restaurants, the movie theater, the crowds, and the excitement of the city. People who live in the country on the other hand enjoy visiting the city for a day or an evening to do some shopping or go to the theater or a concert. But they often find the city a rather frightening place and are usually happy to get back to their quiet, unexciting lives in the country.
do some shopping的意思是“购物,买东西”。
5.
get back to
Part Ⅱ Reading Comprehension
1 In many countries in the process of industrialization, overcrowded cities present a major problem. Poor conditions in these cities, such as lack of housing, inadequate sanitation (卫生) and lack of employment, bring about an increase in poverty, disease and crime. The over-population of towns is mainly caused by the drift of large numbers of people from the rural areas. These people have become dissatisfied with the traditional life of farming, and have come to the towns hoping for better work and pay. One possible solution to the problem would be to impose registration on town residents. Only officially registered residents would be allowed to live in the towns and the urban population would thus be limited. In practice, however, registration would be very difficult to enforce (推行); it would cause a great deal of resentment (不满), which would ultimately lead to violence. The only long-term solution is to make life in the rural areas more attractive, which would encourage people to stay there. This could be achieved by providing encouragement for people to go and work in the villages. Facilities in the rural areas, such as transport, health and education services should be improved. Education should include training in improved methods of farming and other rural industries, so as to develop a more positive attitude towards rural life. The improvement of life in the villages is very important, because the towns themselves cannot be developed without the simultaneous or previous development of the rural area.
1. What does the word "urban" (Line 2, Para. 3) mean?
A.Of the city.
B.Out of work.
C.In a bad condition.
D.Of enormous size.
A B C D
A
2. Large numbers of farmers have poured into towns because ______.
A.they can hardly support their families on farms
B.they are unhappy with their life in the country
C.the rural areas are too crowded with people
D.they hope to have their own business
A B C D
B
D项中的their own business在文中没有提及。
3. In the author's view, solving the cities' problem of overcrowding by strict registrations is ______.
A.practical
B.possible
C.not realistic
D.not sufficient
A B C D
C
4. According to the writer, the problem with crowded cities will be solved if ______.
A.traditional methods of fanning are well kept
B.conditions in rural areas are much improved
C.the government can provide more jobs
D.violence could be controlled in cities
A B C D
B
5. Which factor is most important for people to be attracted to live in the country?
A.Their expectation.
B.Their interests.
C.Their income.
D.Their attitude.
A B C D
B
根据题目中的be attracted to live in the country可以定位到最后一段。
2 There are stock markets in large cities in many countries. Stock markets in Paris, London, Tokyo, Shanghai and New York are among the largest and most well-known. The stock market, also called stock exchange, is a place where people can buy or sell shares of a factory or a company. And each share means certain ownership of a factory or a company. Different people go to stock markets. Some are rich, who want to get more money than they have. Others are not rich, who buy stocks and try to become rich. Still others buy stocks as part of their plan to save money. Of course, investing money in the stock market is not the safest way to make money. No one can tell exactly whether the shares will be doing well. The factory or the company may do badly. Then the stocks will go down, and investors will lose money. The stock may go up or down for a number of untold reasons. Everyone wants the stock to go up, but sometimes even if a factory or company does a good job, the stock may still go down. No wonder going to the stock market is often compared to gambling. All are anxious to make money by "gambling" in the stock market. Factories and companies that need money are pleased that so many people are willing to "gamble".
1. According to the passage, if you have a share of a company or a factory, it means that you ______.
A.can buy the company or the factory
B.can sell the company or the factory
C.will become the owner of the company or the factory
D.are one of the owners of the company or the factory

5 Reading for information is the kind of reading you do in your own language. You do not stop to analyze tenses and clauses when you pick up a book written in your native language. You understand structure without thinking about it. It is second nature to you. Now you must develop this skill in English. You must be able to read beyond the clause markers (标志语) and prepositions and other structure clues. You must learn to read for meaning. A reading comprehension test measures how well you understand the meaning of a passage. It measures your ability to understand the author's main idea and the facts used to support the main idea. It measures your ability to read "between the lines" and use contextual clues to infer what the author implied. It measures your ability to do this as quickly as a native speaker of English. To improve your reading comprehension, you have to develop certain skills. These skills include skimming or scanning a reading passage, identifying the main idea and supporting statements; making inferences, and using contextual clues to help you guess. Scanning means looking over a passage very quickly to find specific information such as a date, a name, or a particular word. Skimming means getting a quick, general overview of the passage. Both are techniques you will begin to use today and continue to use each time you read something in English or your own language. Every time you read, you should use a technique called SQ3R: Survey, Question, Read, Review and Recall.

3. The company has appointed more than one hundred agents in various important cities in over 50 countries throughout the world.
A B C
C
The company has appointed...agents。后面为地点状语in various important cities...world。 因此various important cities in over 50 countries throughout the world.
4. This move is as close as the White House has come to admitting that its reconstruction effort in Iraq has been insufficient.
A B C D
A
表语中的“be as close as”意为“几乎等于,近于”。
