从女士的话“...you'd better eat less and do some exercise...”可知正确答案为选项C(少吃多运动)。
2.

C.In a restaurant.
D.In a hospital.

M: Good afternoon, Madam. What can I do for you? W: I've got a bad cold. My head aches terribly. Q: Where does the conversation most probably take place?
W: Do you think that Jim really fell in love with Alison? M: Of course! I've never seen him spend so much time and energy on the same person. Q: What can we learn from the conversation?
根据女士的问话“Do you think that Jim really fell in love with Alison?”(你认为吉姆真的爱上了艾莉森吗?)

M: Why are you applying for this job? W: Well, I want to find a better chance to develop myself. Q: What is the probable relationship between the two speakers?
对话中男士问女士“Why do you apply for this job?”(你为何要申请这份工作?)
5.
A.Go shopping.

W: I'm going to go shopping. Would you like to go with me? M: No, I would rather stay at home. Q: What would the man like to do?
解答此题的关键是要明白“would rather do sth.”

[听力原文] M: How much are the carnations and the roses? W: One dollar for each carnation and one and a half for each red rose. M: Then I'd like a dozen red carnations and half a dozen red roses. W: I bet it's for your mother, as it's Mother's Day today. M: Well, not completely true. It happens to be her birthday. W: Oh, really? I guess she must be very happy to receive these beautiful carnations from you. M: Yeah, she will. She really likes flowers. So I buy her some every year. I'd just wish they would stay fresh longer than they do. W: Put a little sugar and vitamin C in the water. They'll stay fresh for days. M: Really? I'll tell my mother. And thanks for your suggestion. W: That's all right. Happy birthday to your mother! What day is it today?
由对话内容“as it's Mother's Day today”(因为今天是母亲节)和“It happens to be her birthday.”(今天碰巧是母亲的生日。)可知正确答案是选项C(母亲节,同时又是男士妈妈的生日)。
2.
A.$15.
B.$12.
C.$21.
D.$9.
A B C D

How much does the man spend on red roses?
由女士的话可知玫瑰花的价格是“...a half for each red rose”,男士说“I'd like...half a dozen red roses.”
3.
A.Sugar.
B.Both A and C.
C.Vitamin C.
D.Salt.

What does the woman suggest the man put in the water?
由对话的相关内容“Put a little sugar and vitamin C in the water.” 而选项A(糖)和选项C(维生素、C)都不够全面。

Part Ⅱ Reading Comprehension
1 With companies sometimes receiving hundreds of applications for a single job, it is becoming more common for hiring managers to conduct initial screening interviews over the phone. This saves them considerable time and money—especially if a candidate lives out of town. Don't take these interviews lightly. "It is important to prepare for a telephone interview just as you would for a regular interview," said Alison Doyle, a job search specialist. The employer will normally call or e-mail you in advance to set up an interview time. If possible, arrange for the interview to be over a landline phone, as it tends to be more reliable than a cell phone. Make sure that children, pets and other sources of interruption will be out of the room. Keep a glass of water nearby. Phone interviews can often last a half-hour to an hour, Ms. Doyle said; be sure to have your resume in front of you, along with a list of your accomplishments. Long pauses or halting responses caused by a lack of preparation could keep you from making it to the next stage. Do your best to be personable, but don't overdo it by, say, trying to tell a joke. One advantage of a phone interview is that you don't need to worry about what to wear (although dressing up might make you feel more confident). But some companies have started to conduct video interviews.
1. According to the passage, initial screening interview is usually conducted in order to ______.
A.hire managers
B.apply for a single job
C.save time and money
D.search for a good job
A B C D
C
从文章的第一段第一句“With companies sometimes receiving hundreds of applications for a single job,it is becoming more common for hiring managers to conduct initial screening interviews over the phone. This saves them considerable time and money-especially if a candidate lives out of town”可知,由于求职者人数众多,招聘经理通过电话进行初步筛选面试的做法正在变得越来越常见,因为这可以节省大量的时间和精力。
2. Which of the following is suggested for taking a screening interview over a phone?
A.Take it easy when being interviewed.
B.Get well prepared for it as you do for a regular one.
C.Dress up before the interview to feel more confident.
D.Take the interview through your cell phone.
A B C D
B
根据文章第二段内容“‘Don't take these interviews lightly. It is important to prepare for a telephone interview just as you would for a regular interview', said Alison Doyle, a job search specialist”可知,作者觉得对这类面试不能轻易应付,而要和正式面试一样慎重对待。 根据文章第二、第三段内容可知,选项A)中的“Take it easy…”
3. What could be the result if the interviewee can't answer the questions fluently during ______ the interview?
A.He could get a list of accomplishments.
B.He could lose the chance to go further.
C.He could be asked to go on the stage.
D.He could be required to send his resume to the interviewer.
A B C D
B
从题干中的线索词can't answer the questions fluently可定位到文章第四段第二句“Long pauses or...keep you from making it to the next stage.” 句子“Long pauses or...keep you from making it to the next stage”中“halting responses”意为“有停顿的/断断续续的回答”;“keep you from doing sth.”意为“阻止某人做某事”;而“make it to the next stage”中的stage意为“阶段”,而非“舞台”之意。
4. What does the underlined expression overdo it in the 4th paragraph most probably mean?
A.Do it again and again.
B.Review it over and over.
C.Go over the interview.
D.Be too personal.
A B C D
D
从题干中的关键词overdo,可很快定位到文章第四段的最后两句“Do your best to be personable,but don't overdo it by,say,trying to tell a joke. 动词overdo是由前缀over+do构成的,其中的前缀over常常表示“过分的,超过的”,如oversleep,overwork,overheat,overeat。
5. The passage is mainly about ______.
A.why screening interviews are popular now
B.when screening interviews are often preferred
C.who should take screening telephone interviews
D.how candidates should prepare and take screening interviews
2 Are some people born clever, and others born stupid? Or is intelligence developed by our environment and our experience? Strangely enough, the answer to these questions is yes. To some extent our intelligence is given us at birth, and no amount of special education can make a genius out of a child born with low intelligence. On the other hand, a child who lives in a boring environment will develop his intelligence less than one who lives in rich and varied surroundings. Thus the limits of a person's intelligence are fixed at birth, whether or not he reaches those limits will depend on his environment. This view, now held by most experts, can be supported in a number of ways. It is easy to show that intelligence is to some extent something we are born with. The closer the blood relationship between two people, the closer they are likely to be in intelligence. Thus if we take two unrelated people at random (随机地) from the population, it is likely that their degree of intelligence will be completely different. If, on the other hand, we take two identical twins, they will very likely be as intelligent as each other. Relations like brothers and sisters, parents and children, usually have similar intelligence, and this clearly suggests that intelligence depends on birth. Imagine now that we take two identical twins and put them in different environments. We might send one, for example, to a university and the other to a factory where the work is boring. We would soon find differences in intelligence developing, and this indicates that environment as well as birth plays a part. This conclusion is also suggested by the fact that people who live in close contact with each other, but who are not related at all are likely to have similar degree of intelligence.

3 When you are writing business letters, you need to notice the following tips: Limit Them to One Page By definition, business letters should be short and to the point, preferably one page in length. Studies have found that busy business people do not like to read beyond the first page, and will actually delay reading longer letters. Keep Them Formal and Factual Generally speaking, the tone and content of business letters should be formal and factual. Feelings and emotion do not have a place in business letters. Carefully Plan Your Letter Before writing the letter, take a few minutes to list all of the specific points you need to cover. Remember, the purpose of the letter is to tie up all of the details on the subject at hand, so that more letters won't have to be written back and forth. Be Customer Friendly When writing directly to customers, always focus on their needs and wishes. Think in their way and imagine what it would be like receiving your letter. Use Non-discriminatory Language Make sure that you avoid language that is specific to gender, race or religion in all business letters, either to other businesses or to customers. For example, use "workforce" instead of "manpower", or "chairperson" rather than "chairman".
