A BOOMING RESTAURANT CHAIN
Sion Dale, the father of the Dalehouse restaurant chain, yesterday announced plans to open a further 20 restaurants and create 800 new jobs in the next four years. The group hopes to open 4 of the new restaurants by the end of this year, creating up to 120 jobs. The programme will result in a chain of over 100 Dalehouse restaurants in towns and cities all over the United Kingdom by the end of the four-year period. The company also has a limited programme of expansion in other countries. There are plans for the company to open its third restaurant abroad towards the middle of nextyear as planning permission was recently received for a restaurant in the south of Spain. At the moment there is a Dalehouse restaurant in Germany and another in Denmark. Negotiations are already taking place about opening two more restaurants in Germany and three more in Spain. Mr Dale said yesterday: ' Our plans are ambitious and there is no doubt that in some ways they are quite frightening. But we've been in business for twenty years and a lot of our staff have been with us for most of that time and as a result, have experience of things growing at a fast rate.' The Dalehouse chain currently has 82 restaurants, all in town centre locations. The group is planning now to expand further in residential areas. The company intends to continue its tradition of having most of its restaurants open from midday until midnight seven days a week. It will also continue to open restaurants in building which were originally designed for a different purpose. Certain financial journalists wonder whether the company will be able to find enough cash to finance its plans. Mr Dale, however, remains positive. 'It is true,' he says, 'that we will not be able to finance the plans without some support from the banks, and we are in the process of arranging this at the moment. Most of the money, however, will come from the amount we have kept back from our profits for future investment in the business. We opened 4 restaurants last year so an expansion programme of 5 this year and 6 next would not be outside the normal rate of growth. We have had hardly any problems financing our expansion in the past and expect this to continue in the future.'

East Rock Hotel IT Project
Original purpose-to use internet for 1 Stage 1 Web page with similar 2 to brochure Stage 2 Site developed to include 3 activities Date site went online: 4 2003 Two new functions: ●sends to clients 5 every month electronically ●allows clients to book online (shows floor plans and 6 ) Stage 3 Possible to send out 7 online
[听力原文] Man: As you know, this project was originally designed to explore use of the internet just as a means of advertising. So at the first stage, our consultants designed a simple but attractive web page, with more or less the same graphics as our ordinary brochure, but a different layout. We were very pleased with the results. In the first month alone, we had around one thousand five hundred 'hits' - visits to the website - a very good figure for our type of business, I understand. At the second stage, we asked the consultants to extend the site so that it included sales activities. This was quite a big development, and took some time. Work began on the new site in February two thousand and three, but it wasn't till March two thousand and three that it finally went online. It's too early for me to give you any figures about use, but I'll tell you what it can do. First of all, it gives clients or potential clients the option of receiving monthly newsletters electronically. This allows us to stay in contact with people and to build up our user base. Secondly, the site allows clients to make online bookings. And to make this process easier, it shows floor plans for the East Rock hotel as well as vacancies. And although it's still early days, the signs are that this is very popular. We're now in the process of developing the function further, so that at stage three we'll be able to issue invoices. Finally, when we get...
[听力原文] Woman: The motor industry may be having a hard time in some areas. But at ALC, a small vehicle plant in the UK, business has never been better. I have with me today ALC's managing director, Michael Wright. Michael, your company has a long history, doesn't it? Man: Yes, ALC began life as a small workshop that specialised in fixing lorries that had broken down, before moving into making lorry components for garages doing repairs. Then later on the company went on to design and build special vehicles according to customers' requirements. Woman: And when did you join the company? Man: In the nineteen eighties - after a career in engineering. I wanted something different and I'd always been interested in production, so I came in to manage that side of the business. Sometime later a couple of colleagues invited me to become a director. Woman: What was the company like when you joined the board? Man: Well, we'd begun lorry production, but business was slow. Then one of our existing customers was considering offering us a much larger contract. Talks were just beginning with them when I began as a director. It suited us perfectly because if they guaranteed us a lot of work, we could invest in new equipment. Woman: So what was your plan? Man: Well, I proposed working with our main competitor, so that instead of producing the whole vehicle ourselves, we could get some of the lorry parts from them and add our own special components here, to build lorries to suit this customer's requirements. But I never thought it would be so successful - we can now produce one vehicle every fifty-three minutes! Woman: And next you turned to ambulance production. Man: Well, we soon decided we needed to expand our customer base by developing another product of our own, so we started working on a design for producing a new line in ambulances. Economic changes aren't as much of a problem as they are for manufacturers of other types of vehicles. Ambulances will always be needed. Woman: And did you have any problems? Man: Well yes, at that time one supplier had the monopoly of the entire market, but as our prices have always been very competitive that's helped us to win customers from them. Since then we've developed our own market, and got several contracts to produce ambulances for major organisations. Woman: And I've read that your company organisation is rather different. Man: Well, management on the production and development side is strong and we all work well as a team. But what is different is that we've achieved our success without a marketing manager. I look after all that, with my two fellow directors. It's obviously working - turnover will be up again next year, and that's just the beginning! Woman: It all sounds too good to be true! Don't you have any problems? Man: Well, we have a strong balance sheet, and a satisfactory cash flow, but yes we do have our problems. We need another twenty people, and there aren't any suitably qualified people living locally. There are trained workers in other parts of the country looking for jobs, but we've found they're not willing to move here and we're certainly not going to move - we like it here too much. Woman: Well, I hope you manage to sort it out. Thank you for talking to us, Michael. Man: Thank you.

SPEAKING
PART 1
1. (1) What is your ideal job? (2) What will you choose for travelling, by private or by public transportation? (3) Where do you prefer to live, in big cities or small ones? Why?
(1)I want to be an English teacher in the future. I admire the teacher that they can pass on the knowledge to others. (2) I would like to travel by private. Because, I can go anywhere I want to. (3) I want to live in small city. I would not feel so stressful in the small city.
PART 2
1. 'Mini presentation' — about 5 minutes In this part of the test you are asked to give a short talk on a business topic. You have to choose one of the topic from the two below and then talk for about one minute. You have one minute to prepare your ideas.
A: First you must find a living place, and it's better that the place is near your working place. Second you should be at least conversational. Your co-workers want to speak their own language and they won't be happy if they can't under stand you. Finally working in a different culture, it is important to be customed to the eating, or you will be tired easily and lose confidence to the work. B: Do your homework beforehand—research the opposition, the topic, and your own team's blind spots or hangups—so you don't waste anyone's time. During the negotiating, you must keep your emotions in check, or you will lose your cool easily and lose your priorities over the other sides. Don't insist that the opinions and positions of the opposing team are wrong. Suggest that they look at it from another perspective, remember that our aim is to work toward a win-win result.
