In the last part, bring what you have written to a natural conclusion or a summary. Marks will be rewarded for content, organization, grammar and appropriacy. Failure to following the instructions may result in a loss of marks.
The Advantages of International Exchange Since the Open-door Policy, China is getting into more and more contact with the outside world. So are the Chinese universities. Many Chinese universities have established more than one exchange programs with the foreign universities. These international exchanges are not only good to the students but also the universities on the whole. To the students, it's a great opportunity to either go abroad or cooperate with foreign counterparts. Exchange programs offer the students a wider vision and it's very beneficial for their future life as well as their present study. To the universities, exchange programs have granted both sides the chance of communication and the chance to learn from each other as well, since Chinese universities and foreign universities both have their own characteristics. The exchange can bring an improvement for both sides. Now more and more Chinese students are going abroad to study for some time, and more and more international students are coming to China. Isn't this prosperous picture a proof of the advantages of international exchange?

[解析] Youth Gangs A survey of public attitudes toward schools revealed that 72% of the respondents considered the growth of youth gangs a very important cause of violence in public schools. This is second only to the increased use of drugs and alcohol among school-aged youth, a factor also associated with youth gangs. Some educators emphasize the role of gang in school violence. Is the public perception accurate? A gang is usually defined as a group whose primary purpose is to engage in criminal activity. The overwhelming majority of violence that occurs in public schools has absolutely nothing to do with gangs. There may be groups of kids fighting, but not necessarily a gang. We usually don't consider these student groups as gangs, perhaps because they don't have a crime-related focus. Most often it may not be a gang. It is not always easy to decide if an incident of violence is gang-related.

PART Ⅳ CLOZE Decide which of the choices given below would best complete the passage if inserted in the corresponding blanks. Mark the best choice for each blank on your answer sheet. People take photographs for a 1 of reasons but the most 2 is to make a record of something in order to show others and to look back on in times to come. The subject is the sole reason for taking pictures like these and aesthetic standards are not usually a consideration as long as the image is sharp and clear. 3 for those us who call ourselves photographers the situation is often 4 and the subject becomes 5 much less importance than the visual and photographic quality of the image. I've just spent a few days in Paris and have returned home without a single picture of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe or Notre Dame. Why? Because during the time of my visit the weather and the 6 would not have produced the sort of quality and atmosphere I wanted my photographs to have. If I'd simply wanted a visual record of these places I would have been much better 7 buying a postcard. On the other hand I did take a shot of some wet cobblestones that I'm pretty pleased with, although as a visual memento of Paris it leaves something 8 . It's not unreasonable to ask why taking a photograph of wet cobblestones should be more 9 to me than shooting a beautiful building like Notre Dame. The answer is that the former was rich in many of the key visual elements which give an image that elusive eye-catching quality, whereas, on the day of my visit, Notre Dame was noticeably 10 them. As a travel photographer I often find myself in beautiful places knowing that what I'm seeing and experiencing is simply not going to make a striking photograph and I 11 find that very frustrating. But it's important to be able to recognise this. It's sad when you have to make excuses for a photograph. It was stunning but the photograph just hasn't come 12 very well. It was probably not there to begin with and building a reputation as a photographer has as much to do with the photographs you don't take as it has with 13 you do. Our vision is greatly influenced by factors which cannot be recorded on film, such as sounds, smells and even our mood. I'm sure you've taken what you thought would be great pictures 14 stimulated by an exciting event, a beautiful view, or simply when enjoying yourself, only to find that your pictures have captured nothing of what you believed to be 15 . I know I have.
[解析] 就是那天作者在访问巴黎时,巴黎圣母院没有那种丰富的令人难以琢磨的视觉要素。单词 lack是及物动词:be without sth.;not have,但是该动词是表示状态的动词,一般不用进行时态。而词组lacking in中lacking是形容词,后面必须跟介词in:have little of;need。如果该同用做名词,一般用lack of,不必加冠词。
PART Ⅴ GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY There are twenty-five sentences in this section. Beneath each sentence there are four words or phrases marked A, B, C and D. Choose one word or phrase that best completes the sentence. Mark your answer on your answer sheet.

4. People tend to buy more things than ______.
A.it is necessary
B.being necessary
C.is necessary
D.to be necessary
A B C D

TEXT A
Team Work
The class teacher/s and student/s need to work like a team, with the teacher being the coach who needs to continually encourage, motivate and intrigue each and every player, demanding high performance while ensuring that no individual gets bogged down in detail or overwhelmed with targets. This is particularly difficult in the sessions immediately after mimicking has been introduced since students become easily confused and tired when they first tackle mimicking. It is essential that each and every student understand why he or she is doing each activity, without taking undue amounts of time to explain. Whether the target is speed, creativity, effective use of repetition, making short clear sentences or so on, it is essential that every student is aware that the particular target is a guideline, and may be modified by them to suit their needs. The need for speed is not a transparent goal and causes many cognitive problems for students since few realize the link between the ability to talk fast and easily understandable pronunciation and meaning, nor do most quickly realize that they are actively learning vocabulary items or good syntax through the peer-on-peer activities, Indeed it will be quite some time before these processes become self-evident and even more so in seminar classes. It's relatively easy to get most students intellectually and physically engaged in actively learning with verbally active classes while the real trick is to get everyone interested. If it's boring for the teacher it will probably be even more so for the students, especially for those who want cognitive understanding before they tackle something. These students are not recalcitrant, they reasonably expect to understand what they're doing and clearly identify their targets before they do anything. It is up to the "coach" to make sure that participants see the relevance of what they're doing and are actively interested in achieving either their own personal goals, the activity targets, or both through doing the activity in an active way.
1. Which of the following statements is true, according to the author?
A.Mimicking is the most difficult task for the teacher and students as well.
B.The teacher has to explain to the students without taking up too much time.
C.The sessions are essential to the students' carrying out the particular activities.
D.Once the target of the activity is settled, nothing should change any more.
A B C D
B
[解析] 问题是判断题,需要根据具体的内容来判断是非。第一段中It is essential that each and every student understand why he or she are doing each activity, without taking undue amounts of time to explain.选项A是错的,因为困难在于mimicking介绍以后。This is particularly difficult in the sessions immediately after mimicking has been introduced.
2. What is the problem when few realize the link between the ability to talk fast and easily understandable pronunciation and meaning?
A.They can actively learn vocabulary items or good syntax.
B.The students have many cognitive problems themselves.
C.It is difficult to talk fast and easily understandably.
D.The need for speed is not clear at the very beginning.
A B C D
D
[解析] 根据提问,第二段的第一句话已经点明了The need for speed is not a transparent goal and causes many cognitive problems for students.
3. It is the responsibility
A.of the teacher to make clear to the students the relevance of the activity and the target.
B.of the teacher to see the relevance of what they're doing and their own personal goals.
C.of the students to understand the activity cognitively before they tackle something.
D.of the students to identify clearly their targets before they do anything in class.
A B C D
A
[解析] 根据提问,是谁的责任:It is up to the “coach” to make sure that participants see the relevance of what they're doing and are actively interested in achieving either their own personal goals, the activity targets.

Viruses Find New Ways to Worm into Computers
Just when you thought you knew a computer virus or worm when you saw one, several new infections that may fool you are gaining momentum on the Internet. Most e-mail viruses require the victim to double-click open an infected attachment before they can wreak their havoc. But Badtrans-B and Aliz, two worms that were spreading quickly over the weekend and Monday, can launch themselves automatically when the recipient views or even just clicks on the subject line of an infected e-mail message using Microsoft's Outlook and Outlook Express programs. October's Nimda virus used a similar technique, which helped it spread further and faster than it otherwise might have. Computer users were safe from viruses as long as they didn't download programs from the Internet or open e-mail attachments. But these days, viruses are as capable of getting into computers as Santa Claus is at getting down chimneys. Antivirus software maker McAfee, a division of Santa Clara, Calif.'s Network Associates, upgraded Badtrans-B to a high-risk virus for consumers. Vincent Gullotto, director of McAfee's virus lab, said the worm is infecting more home users than corporate networks. To prevent these and other viruses from automatically launching themselves, Gullotto advised downloading a software patch from Microsoft at www. microsoft, com. Badtrans-B and Aliz have shown up with many different subject lines, ranging from the Iow key "info" to "Fw: Funky pictures--check it." Meanwhile, a worm called SirCam is still popping up regularly in e-mail boxes, months after it was first discovered. SirCam takes a Microsoft Word document from an infected computer and e-mails it out with a message reading "I send you this file in order to have your advice." Gullotto attributed SirCam's staying power to social engineering. SirCam takes the title of the Word file as its subject line, which means the virus might arrive labeled anything from "business plan" to "diary." It is those sometimes-intriguing subject lines that entice people to open SirCam-laden attachments and spread the virus, Gullotto said. To protect against all of these viruses, experts advise that computer users install antivirus software and regularly update it from the company's Website.
1. What does the author mean by saying "gaining momentum on the Internet"?
A.Becoming more and more serious.
B.Being the most important moment.
C.Having the bigger and bigger impetus.
D.Gaining more velocity and weight.

2. The main idea of the second paragraph is
A.how to avoid double-click on infected email attachments.
B.how emails both carry and spread viruses and worms.
C.what new viruses can automatically launch themselves.
D.what new viruses are capable of with an double-click on.
4. What makes it more difficult to deal with the virus named SirCam?
A.It will regularly pop up even when discovered.
B.It has a staying power in social engineering.
C.It takes a Microsoft Word document.
D.It is labeled various intriguing subject lines.
A B C D
B
[解析] 根据提问,应在相关的段落找到有关的叙述。其中有一句概括地讲到Gullotto attributed Sir Cain's staying power to social engineering。

Is Continuing Ed for You?
Continuing education is important for everyone now, in all fields. Almost as soon as you've completed a field of study and begun working--new ideas, approaches and techniques will be under discussion. To stay current in your discipline and to assure work success and career progression, it's imperative you stay on top of emerging techniques and technologies that affect your work area. Even if you have worked in the same field for years and have accumulated a rich repertoire of experience, Continuing Ed is vital. Many occupations are now adopting "skill standards" that will formally define the knowledge desired or required for that field. In order to assure your ongoing career stability, you'll want to be sure to keep current and at least meet, if not exceed, defined "skill standards". Certification, in a wide variety of fields, is becoming more and more common these days, too. Even if you're already in the occupation--if today's new hires are expected to be certified in particular areas, it will be to your advantage to certify yourself as well. Ongoing education is one of the surest routes to promotion and it increases job security. It also enhances opportunity on the job market when you're seeking a new job. And, carefully planned, it can provide a good insurance policy against obsolescence. (If trends indicate that your career field or industry is in a downturn, with continuing education, it's possible to acquire new skills and successfully move into another occupation or industry.) Reality is: There's no way to rose with continuing education. So, exactly what is "continuing education" ? It can take many forms. For those in certain career areas (i. e., legal/medical) there are certain prescribed courses one must take within a certain timeframe in order to remain licensed. In other areas, like technology, there are new languages, new operating systems and the like released continually that may be important to learn about for your particular field or business niche. For some, achieving specific certifications is vital. But, sometimes, Continuing Ed is less specific. Sometimes it's up to you to decide what courses/new learning will benefit you in your current job or on the job market as a whole.

Abortion Should Be Kept Out of the Criminal Code
Abortion is the termination of pregnancy before the fetus is capable of independent life. When the expulsion from the womb occurs after the fetus becomes viable (capable of independent life), usually at the end of six months of pregnancy, it is technically a premature birth. The practice of abortion was widespread in ancient times as a method of birth control. Later it was restricted or forbidden by most world religions, but it was not considered an offense in secular law until the 19th century. During that century, first the English Parliament and then American state legislatures prohibited induced abortion to protect women from surgical procedures that were at the time unsafe, commonly stipulating a threat to the woman's life as the sole therapeutic exception to the prohibition. Occasionally the exception was enlarged to include danger to the mother's health as well. Legislative action in the 20th century has been aimed at permitting the termination of unwanted pregnancies for medical, social, or private reasons. Abortions at the woman's request were first allowed by tire Soviet Union in 1920, followed by Japan and several East European nations after World War II. In the late 1960s liberalized abortion regulations became widespread. The impetus for the change was threefold: (1) infanticide and the high maternal death rate associated with illegal abortions, (2) a rapidly expanding world population, (3) the growing feminist movement. Countries with moderately restrictive laws of abortions permitted to protect a woman's health, to end pregnancies resulting from rape or incest, to avoid genetic or congenital defects, or in response to social problems such as unmarried status or inadequate income. Abortions at the woman's request, usually with limits based on physical conditions such as duration of pregnancy, were allowed in countries with nearly 40 percent of the world's population. Under the Criminal Code. R. S. C. 970, C-34, abortion constitutes a criminal offense. Section 159(2) (c) makes it an offense to offer or have for sale or disposal, to publish or advertise means, instructions or medicine intended or represented to cause abortion or miscarriage. Section 221 (1) makes the act of causing death to a child who has not become a human being, in the act of birth, equivalent to murder. Abortion constitutes an indictable offense under s. 251 of the Code whenever a person uses any means to carry out the intent to procure a miscarriage of female person, whether she is pregnant or not. Section 251 (2) makes any female attempting to procure a miscarriage by any means guilty of an indictable offense. Section 251 (4) allows permission for a therapeutic abortion to be obtained from a competent committee, fulfilling strict regulations, with the operation performed by a qualified physician. Until 1988, under the Canadian Criminal Code, an attempt to induce an abortion by any means was a crime. The maximum penalty was life imprisonment, or two years if the woman herself was convicted. The law was liberalized in 1969 with an amendment to the Criminal Code allowing that abortions are legal if performed by a doctor in an accredited hospital after a committee certified that the continuation of the pregnancy would likely endanger the mother's life or heath. In 1989, 70,779 abortions were reported in Canada, or 18 abortions per 100 live births.
2. In the nineteenth century, abortion was only allowed
A.when the woman was not well with herself.
B.when surgical procedures were unsafe.
C.when the mother requested to have one.
D.while the family was in financial straits.
A B C D

1. Hi all, I have been trying to make MR for Maya 4.5 network rendering work properly for a few weeks. I have a dual processor (with MR for Maya 4.5 final) and a single processor (with MR for Maya 4.5 final and MR 3.1 Stand alone) connected in a LAN through a 3com 812 hub/router. These are the problems I get when I run a render over the network: — No matter in which PC I start the rendering from command line (mayarender_with_mr) it uses this machine for the rendering heavy process, despite its name doesn't appear in the maya. rayhosts ... so MR always takes the PC where I start the rendering as a rendering node no matter what it's in maya. rayhosts file. — When I use both PCs for rendering, it freezes in the final gathering computing of any of the first frames (depending how heavy the final gather settings are). No error messages, it just stops. — Finally when I start the network rendering from the dual Proc PC, it takes more time per frame using the other node on the network than rendering alone. Hope you can help me, thanks for your timeWhat is wrong according to the following letter?
A.His computer.
B.His processors.
C.His network.
D.His rendering.
