Part Ⅰ Listening Comprehension Directions:This part is to test your listening ability. It consists of 4 sections.
Section A Directions:This section is to test your ability to understand short dialogues. There are 5 recorded dialogues in it. After each dialogue, there is a recorded question. Both the dialogues and questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, you should decide on the correct answer from the 4 choices marked A, B, C and D given in your test paper. Then you should mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.
[听力原文] M: How long can I play on the playground? W: Well, it opens at 9:00 in the morning and closes at 5:00 in the afternoon. Q: How many hours can the man stay there?
2.
A.She didn't want to watch TV.
B.She wanted to go to bed.
C.She wanted to listen to the radio.
D.Her study was disturbed.
A B C D
D
[听力原文] W: Could you please turn down your TV a little? M: Sorry! Are you still preparing for the final exam? Q: Why did the woman ask the man to turn down the TV?
3.
A.A car.
B.A cow.
C.A book.
D.A table.
A B C D
C
[听力原文] M: Where is that book about cars? I laid it down on the table. W: I don't know. I did some cleaning and don't remember where I put it. Q: What is the man looking for? 男士说“Where is that book about cars?”(我那本关于汽车的书在哪里?)
4.
A.Ask for a three-day leave.
B.Go out with his friend.
C.Watch films at home.
D.Go to visit Bob.
A B C D
C
[听力原文] W: So, you have three days off. What are you going to do? M: Well, I probably will rent some movies with my friend Bob. Q: What will the man probably do? 男士说“...rent some movies with my friend Bob.”(我可能会和我朋友鲍勃租几部电影。)
5.
A.She is wandering.
B.She is thinking.
C.The man should wash the clothes.
D.She has already washed the clothes.
A B C D
C
[听力原文] M: Why don't you wash the clothes? W: Why don't I wash? I am wondering the same thing about you. Q: What does the woman mean? 如果注意到wonder(想知道)和wander(徘徊)是两个读音相近、但是意义不同的词,就不难排除选项A(她在徘徊)。
Section B Directions:This section is to test your ability to understand short conversations. There are 2 recorded conversations in it. After each conversation, there are some recorded questions. Both the conversations and questions will be spoken two times. When you hear a question, you should decide on the correct answer from the 4 choices marked A, B, C and D given in your test paper. Then you should mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.
[听力原文] W: When did you become interested in collecting stamps? M: Oh, when I was about ten years old. W: Ten years old? So you have loved it for 9 years. M: Yeah, it's really an exciting hobby. You know, the first postage stamps were issued in Britain in 1840. W: Really? I didn't know that. What's on the first postage stamps? M: Well, look, here's a picture of the first two stamps issued. W: Oh, they both bear a picture of Queen Victoria, don't they? M: Yes, I wish I had the originals, then I would be a wealthy man instead of a poor stamp collector. W: But I believe collecting stamps gives you much pleasure which not all wealthy men can enjoy. M: Yes, I do agree.
How old was the man when he became interested in collecting stamps? 对话刚开始便一问一答给出此题的答案,第2句“...when I was about ten years old”即得出答案为选项A(10)。
2.
A.A picture of Britain.
B.A picture of the queen's palace.
C.A picture of the Rowland Hill.
D.A picture of Queen Victoria.
A B C D
D
[听力原文] What is on the first postage stamps? 选项B(女王宫殿的图画)和选项C(罗兰·希尔的画像),对话中都未提及,故均可排除。
[听力原文] M: Nice to see you. I've come for a job interview. W: Oh, yes. How did you find out about the job? M: I read your advertisement in the newspaper yesterday. So here I am. W: Good. Do you know about computers? M: Yes, I studied computer science in the university and later I worked in a computer company for a few years. W: Then what makes you think to come to this place? M: Well, I hope to find a better place for further development. W: Good. Please fill in this form. We'll inform you very soon. M: Thanks for your consideration. W: That's OK.
How did the man find out about the job? 对话中男士说“I read your advertisement in the newspaper yesterday.
4.
A.Knowledge of English.
B.Communication skill.
C.Creativity.
D.Knowledge about computer.
A B C D
D
[听力原文] What qualification is probably required by the company?
5.
A.He applies for this job to earn more money.
B.He majored in computer in the university.
C.He knows little about computer.
D.He has just graduated from a university.
A B C D
B
[听力原文] Which of the following statements is true?
Section C Directions:In this section you will hear a recorded short passage. The passage is printed in the test paper, but with some words or phrases missing. The passage will be read two times. You are required to put the missing words or phrases on the Answer Sheet in order of the numbered blanks according to what you hear. Welcome to the Public Bus System. Its bus network 1 365 days of the year and has services that can take you to your destination (目的地) quickly and easily. You can 2 the city for just $3 a day with Type-A bus tickets. Type-B bus tickets are even 3 . You can get on and off as many times as you like, so you can tour the city at 4 . You can buy tickets at most newspaper stands. [听力原文] Welcome to the Public Bus System. Its bus network operates 365 days of the year and has services that can take you to your destination (目的地) quickly and easily. You can travel round the city for just $3 a day with Type-A bus tickets. Type-B bus tickets are even cheaper. You can get on and off as many times as you like, so you can tour the city at your own pace. You can buy tickets at most newspaper stands. If you want to get more information, call the office of the Public Bus System.
Section D Directions:This section is to test your ability to comprehend short passages. You will hear a recorded passage. After that you will hear five questions. Both the passage and the questions will be read two times. When you hear a question, you should complete the answer to it with a word or a short phrase (in not more than 3 words). The questions and incomplete answers are printed in your test paper. You should write your answers on the Answer Sheet correspondingly.
1. What's the problem the world is now facing? The world is not only hungry but it is also ______.
thirsty for water
[听力原文] The world is not only hungry but it is also thirsty for water. This may seem strange to you for nearly 70% of the earth's surface is covered with water. But about 97% of that huge amount is sea water. Man can only drink and use the three percent—the fresh water that comes from rivers, lakes and underground. And we cannot even use all of it, because some of it is polluted. However the small amount of fresh water which is sometimes replaced by rainfall is still enough for us now. But our need for water is increasing rapidly almost day by day. Only by taking steps now can we avoid the serious water shortage in the future. One way is to make use of sea water by removing the salt, which is already in use in many parts of the world. The world is not only hungry but it is also thirsty for water(世界不仅缺粮,水资源也缺乏)可知答案为thirsty for water。
2. What percentage does the fresh water account for? Only ______ percent.
three
Man can only drink and use the three percent—the fresh water...(人类能饮用的水资源仅占3%,即淡水资源……)
3. Where does the fresh water come from? It comes from rivers, lakes and ______.
underground
从...the fresh water that comes from rivers, lakes and underground(这些淡水资源来源于河流、湖泊和地下水)可直接得到答案。
4. Why people can't use all of the fresh water? Because some of it is ______.
polluted
And we cannot even use all of it, because some of it is polluted(我们甚至不能利用所有的淡水资源,因为有一部分被污染了)可直接得到答案。
5. How can people make use of sea water? They make use of it by ______.
removing the salt
One way is to make use of sea water by removing the salt(一种办法是通过除去海水中的盐分对其加以利用)可得到答案。
Part Ⅱ Structure Directions:This part is to test your ability to construct grammatically correct sentences. It consists of 2 sections.
Section A Directions:In this section, there are 10 incomplete sentences. You are required to complete each one by deciding on the most appropriate word or words from the 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. Then you should mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.
1. ______ got in the wheat than it began to rain heavily.
5. I became a teacher because I preferred books and people ______ politics.
A.than
B.to
C.rather
D.against
A B C D
B
此外prefer也可以和rather than搭配,如Bob prefers making original pieces rather than reproduction.
6. The farmers, ______ houses had been destroyed by the serious flood, were given help by the government.
A.who
B.what
C.which
D.whose
A B C D
D
7. The experience ______ in the war will be of great value to us.
A.to gain
B.gaining
C.gained
D.gain
A B C D
C
避错指南:根据以上分析,gain与the experience之间是动宾关系,需用gain的过去分词形式;A项和B项中gain与the experience构成了主动关系,故排除。
8. In our company, everybody is well taken care of, ______ position he is in.
以表示否定意义的短语,如under no circumstances, on no account, in no way, in no sense等开头的句子需要使用倒装语序,故选项D为正确答案。
10. As a biologist and ecologist, he is ______ all forms of hunting.
Section B Directions:There are 5 incomplete statements here. You should fill in each blank with the proper form of the word given in brackets. Write the word or words in the corresponding space on the Answer Sheet.
1. (Walk) ______ in the street the other day, I came across an old friend of mine.
5. He had moral objections to (kill) ______ animals for food.
killing
objection to sth. /doing sth. /sth.
Part Ⅲ Reading Comprehension Directions:This part is to test your reading ability. There are 5 tasks for you to fulfill. You should read the reading material carefully and do the tasks as you are instructed.
Task 1 Directions:After reading the following passage, you will find 5 questions or unfinished statements. For each question or statement there are 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. You should make the correct choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center. It is clear that some people who participate in exercise training will develop injuries to their bones, muscles, and joints (关节). Despite unfounded reports in the mass media of extremely high injury rates among adult exercisers, there have been few good studies of exercise injuries in populations. One of the difficulties in performing such studies has been the need to identify both the number of cases and the number of people at risk for injury. In other words, it is difficult to know the number of individuals injured and the total number of individuals exercising in the population. But these two figures are necessary in order to calculate (统计) true injury rates. Normally, injury is defined as an accident that causes a person to stop exercising for at least one week. The best available studies on injury rates show that about 25 to 30 percent of adult runners become "injured" (based on the above definition) over the course of a year. More serious injuries include those for which the injured person seeks medical care. If only they are considered, injury rates are much lower, perhaps in the range of 1 percent per year. Little is known about the causes of exercise injuries. One factor that has been linked to injury is the amount of exercise; for example, individuals who run more miles are likelier to be injured than those who run fewer miles. Factors such as age, sex, body type, and experience have not been shown to be associated with risk of injury. It seems logical that structural abnormalities, sudden increases in training intensity, and types of equipment used are likely to be related to injury risk. However, data to support these opinions are not available.
1. What is the writer's attitude towards high injury rates among adult exercisers reported by the mass media? ______
4. The factors that are in relation to exercises injuries ______.
A.have been obtained from many good studies
B.have been confirmed by many data
C.cannot confirm the risk of equipment types
D.can be proved easily by the data through calculation
A B C D
C
因此选项C(不能证实器材类型的风险)符合文意,为正确答案。 避错指南:选项A(来自许多真正的研究)与文中所述事实“……
5. The passage is mainly about ______.
A.the high injury rates for those doing exercises
B.the ways to avoid exercise injuries
C.the evidences for the seriousness of exercise injuries
D.the studies about injury rates and causes for injuries
Task 2 Directions:This task is the same as Task 1. The 5 questions or unfinished statements are numbered 41 to 45. Some people argue that serf-plagiarism (自我剽窃) is impossible by definition because plagiarism is theft and people cannot steal from their own work. But, this is not correct in law. And there are circumstances, such as insurance fraud (保险欺诈), etc., when it is possible to steal from oneself. Serf-plagiarism, however, must be carefully distinguished from the recycling of one's work that to a greater or lesser extent everyone legally does. Self-plagiarism in academic (学术的) publications is a gray area. However, many universities indirectly recognize the practice as deceptive. They publish rules preventing students from handing in basically the same essay for credit in different courses. There are also roles against someone handing in the same graduate thesis to different universities. Among established academics, self-plagiarism is a problem. It means basically the same article or book is handed in on more than one occasion for salary raising or promotion. Like all plagiarism the essence of self-plagiarism is the author' attempts to cheat the reader. This happens when no indication is given that the work is being recycled or when an effort is made to disguise the original text. For example, an author just makes cosmetic changes to make the same article, chapter, or book look different. But actually it remains unchanged in its central argument. In this case, disguising a text occurs. Authors change such things as paragraph breaks, capitalization, or the substitution of technical terms in different languages. What he has done is to make readers believe they are reading something completely new. This practice is serf-plagiarism.
1. In the second sentence of the first paragraph, "this" refers to ______.
A.all the activities about plagiarism
B.the activities of self-plagiarism
C.the argument for the impossibility of self-plagiarism
D.the argument for the possibility of serf-plagiarism

Task 5 Directions:There is an introduction to how to make complaints below. After reading it, you should give brief answers to the 5 questions (No. 56 to No. 60) that follow. The answers (in not more than 3 words) should be written after the corresponding numbers on the Answer Sheet. Complaining about faulty goods or bad service is never easy. First of all, complaints must be made to a responsible person. Go back to the shop where you bought the goods, taking with you any receipt you may have and ask to see the owner. If you don't want to do it in person, write a letter. Stick to the facts and keep a copy of what you write. At this stage you should give any receipt numbers, but need not give receipts or other documents to prove you bought the article. If you are dissatisfied with the answer you get, write to the managing director of the firm or shop. Be sure to keep copies of your own letters and any answers you receive. If your complaint is a just one, the shopkeeper may offer to replace the faulty article. You may have the right to refuse the goods and ask for a refund, but this is only where you have hardly used the goods and have acted at once. And if you have suffered some special loss, for example, a new washer tears your clothes, you might claim money to replace them. If the shopkeeper offers you a credit note to buy goods in the same shop but you would rather have money back, say so. If you accept a credit note, remember that later you won't be able to get refunded. In case the shop owner refuses to refund, approach your Citizens' Advice Bureau before you accept a credit note.

2. To whom can you write if you are not satisfied with the answer you get? You can write to ______ of the firm or shop.
the managing director
3. What kind of right do you have if the shop owner offers to replace the faulty article? You have the right to ______ and ask for a refund.
refuse the goods
4. What can you do if you have suffered some special loss? You can ______ to replace it.
claim money
5. To whom can you approach if the shop owner refuses to refund? ______.
Citizens' Advice Bureau
Part Ⅳ Translation—English into Chinese Directions:This part, numbered 61 through 65, is to test your ability to translate English into Chinese. After each of the sentences numbered 61 to 64, you will read three choices of suggested translation. You should choose the best translation and mark the corresponding letter on your Answer Sheet. And for the paragraph numbered 65, write your translation in the corresponding space on the Translation/Composition Sheet.
1. People were not fully aware that peace of mind was very important for health.
A B C
A
③选项C漏译状语fully(充分地),稍逊于A项。
2. Great efforts should be made to inform the public of the terrible consequences of neglecting environmental protection.
A B C
B
Great efforts should be made(应该下大力气)的目的,即解释说明“下大力气”是要干什么。
3. Without reading the required books before classes, students will find it difficult to understand the class.
A B C
B
4. Only a woman is capable of standing in front of a wardrobe packed full of clothes and announcing sadly that she has nothing to wear.
该句的表语中包含短语be capable of doing sth. of之后有两个动作,分别为standing in front of a wardrobe packed full of clothes和announcing sadly that she has nothing to wear。理解前者时要注意packed full of clothes(装满衣服的)是a wardrobe的定语,相当于a wardrobe which is packed full of clothes(装满衣服的衣柜)。
5. The China Travel Service (or the CTS)(中国旅行社,简称“中旅社”), the first travel service of New China, is now one of the key elements in China's travel industry. It boasts the largest travel service with the most complete and fully-functioning network in the country. Currently the CTS group has over 200 subordinate travel services, 117 hotels, 46 duty free shopping centers and 62 tourist service companies all over China.
②翻译第1句时,要注意其中的同位语结构the first travel service of New China,该同位语是补充说明主语The China Travel Service的。 ④第3句中需注意一些旅游业常见的名词或名词词组:subordinate travel services(旅游分社)、hotels(旅馆)、duty free shopping centers(免税购物中心)和tourist service companies(旅游服务公司)。
