Both the conversations and questions will be spoken two times. When you hear a question, you should decide on the correct answer from the 4 choices marked A, B, C and D given in your test paper. Then you should mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center. Now listen to the conversations.

[听力原文] Which company did the woman work in?
[解析] 题目询问女士过去在哪里工作。在对话开头,女士就说“I have worked... first for a trading company, then a trust company.”,由此可以判断正确答案为选项A(贸易公司和信托公司)。
[听力原文] M: How did you like the fireworks last night? W: I really didn't enjoy them too much. There was such a big crowd that we couldn't get very close. M: I thought you were going early. W: We did, but even though we got there at ten to eight, the park was already filled with lots of people. It was so crowded that we had a hard time finding a place even to stand. M: That's too bad, because the fireworks were really wonderful. W: What did you do? How did you manage to get a good view? M: We went early. We decided to have a picnic so we'd be sure to get there early enough to find a good place. W: I guess that's what I should do next Fourth of July. M: We found a place on top of some rocks where nobody could get in front of us. W: What did you do about going home? I've never been pushed so much in my whole life! M: Oh, we stayed around for an hour or so, but they ran extra buses until midnight, so we didn't have any problem. W: I think you were lucky. M: It wasn't lucky. It was a good planning. You'll have to come with us next year.

[听力原文] Would you like to live in a city where buildings turn the lights off for you, where self-driving cars find the nearest parking space, and where even the rubbish bins know when they're full? Although it might sound like science-fiction, living in a "smart" city like this could happen sooner than you think. Towns we have lived in for centuries are being upgraded, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is Songdo in South Korea. Every home there will have a built-in "telepresence" system—allowing users to control the heating and locks; take part in video conferences; and receive education, healthcare and government services. Around the city, escalators will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the network. Many hope all this connectedness will make cities greener, more sustainable, and more efficient.

The questions and incomplete answers are printed in your test paper. You should write your answers on the Answer Sheet correspondingly.
1. What do Japanese children feel from their parents? They feel heavy ______ from their parents.
pressures
[听力原文] Japanese students work very hard but many are unhappy. They feel heavy pressures from their parents. Most students are always told by their parents to study harder and better so that they can have a wonderful life in the future. Though this may be a good idea for those very bright students, it can have terrible results for many students who are not gifted enough. Many of them have tried very hard at school but have failed in the exams and have their parents lose hope. Such students feel that they are hated by everyone else they meet and they don't want to go to school any longer. They become dropouts. It is surprising that though most Japanese parents are worried about their children, they do not help them in any way. Many parents feel that they are not able to help their children and that it is the teachers' work to help their children. To make matters worse, a lot of parents send their children to those schools opening in the evenings and on weekends--they only help the students to pass the exams and never teach them any real sense of the world. Many Japanese schools usually have rules about everything from the students' hair to their clothes and things in their school bags. Child psychologists now think that such strict rules are harmful to the feelings of the students. Almost 40% of the students said that no one had taught them how to get on with others, how to tell right from wrong and how to show love and care for others, even for their parents.
4. What don't evening and weekend schools teach students? They only help the students to pass the exams and never teach them any real sense ______.
of the world
[解析] 本题的问题关键词是what。短文中提到晚间补习班或周末学校只能教会孩子如何通过考试,却无法教会孩子认识世界,因此填of the world。
5. How many students said that no one had taught them how to get on with others? Almost ______ of the students said that no one had taught them how to get on with others.

Task 1 Directions: After reading the following passage, you will find 5 questions or unfinished statements, numbered 1 to 5. For each question or statement, there are 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. You should make the correct choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center. The motor vehicle has killed and disabled more people in its brief history than any bomb or weapon ever invented. Much of the blood on the street flows essentially from impolite behavior of drivers who refuse to respect the legal and moral rights of others. So the killing on the road may be regarded as a social problem. In fact the enemies of society on wheels are a rather harmless people, just ordinary people acting carelessly, you might say. But it is a principle both of law and common morality (道德) that carelessness is no excuse when one's actions could bring death or damage to others. Researchers have estimated that as many as 80 percent of all automobile accidents result from the psychological condition of the driver. Emotional upsets can damage drivers' reactions, slow their judgment, and blind them to dangers that might otherwise be obvious. The experts warn that it is essential for every driver to make a conscious effort to keep one's emotions under control. Yet the irresponsibility that accounts for much of the problem is not confined to drivers. Street walkers regularly violate traffic regulations. They are at fault in most vehicle walker accidents. Many cyclists even believe that they are not subject to the basic rules of the road.
1. According to the writer, the motor vehicle accident happens essentially because of ______.
A.the driver's poor driving techniques
B.the driver's violation of others' legal and moral rights
C.the street walkers' carelessness while walking
D.the street walkers' violation of traffic regulations
Task 2 Directions: This task is the same as Task 1. The 5 questions or unfinished statements are numbered 1 to 5. If the sun has enough power to warm and light the whole earth, it must have enough power to do other things, too. Can we use the sun's abundant energy to supply electricity, or at least to perform the functions which electricity or other types of power usually perform? The answer is yes. For example, people have for many years been using the reflected heat of the sun to cook by. Solar cookers have been built with several curved mirrors reflecting the sun and focusing its heat on the cooking element. This apparatus can be used just like a gas or electric stove; it is more expensive to make but it does not need any fuel, and so costs nothing to use. Another possibility of using solar energy is in house-heating. The form of energy we use most is electricity, and every day more is needed. But electricity has to be made, too, and to make it huge quantities of fuel are required—oil, coal, gas and nowadays even uranium. The question which worries everyone today is: how long will these fuels last? Nobody knows it for sure, but most experts think it will soon be difficult to obtain sufficient electricity from these sources. It is possible that the sun can make a contribution here, too. Solar power has already been used to produce terrific heat. In Southern France a solar furnace has been built, where temperatures reach more than 3,000 degrees centigrade. This furnace is only used for experiments at present, but could be used to produce steam for a power station.
