Is It Wise to Compare Ourselves with Others?
Nowadays comparison has been a part of life for many people. Some people are strongly against this practice. They believe that comparing with others brings about more pressure. But I don't think so and I insist that it is wise to compare ourselves with others.
I have several reasons to support my view. To start with, others are mirrors through which we can see our own merits as well as demerits and improve ourselves accordingly. As Confucius said, "Among any three people walking, I will find something to learn for sure. Their good qualities are to be followed, and their shortcomings are to be avoided". In addition, we know clearly where we stand and who we are by comparison. For example, every time we take exams, we feel it necessary to be told where we rank to see if we have made progress or been left behind. Finally, comparing ourselves with people who are better than us can motivate us to work harder and express our full range of potential.
From the foregoing, we can safely draw a conclusion that it is advisable to compare ourselves with others because we can introspect ourselves and move forward in the course of comparison.

Dear Mary,
We will plan a house-warming party at 7 p.m. at our new apartment tonight. I guess you want to see what our new apartment looks like after delicate decoration. And there will be a lot of fun at the party. We can dance till dawn if we like. Are you interested? Come and see for yourself. By the way, I couldn't get you on the phone. When you come back, give me a call and tell me your decision, OK?
Yours sincerely,
Jane
